Recycling
It is often believed that recycling is a relatively new facet of waste disposal, brought on by human advancement and a drive for a better future. However; a bit of research leads us to understand that the practise has been around for nearly 2500 years wherein Greece would turn to recycling during times of scarce resources out of necessity.
Depending on your application of the term recycling (‘to treat or process waste materials so as to make suitable for reuse’) you could attribute it as far back as our cave-dwelling ancestors, using animal bones as decoration after the creature itself was primarily food, much in the same way Native Americans used every part of the buffalo possible.
In the UK modern recycling is most often attributed to collection of recyclable rubbish along with general household waste. Recycling can however by defined as so much more; children getting new use out of cardboard packaging for a school project, making compost out of old fruit and vegetables, clothing hand-downs and so much more. Indeed, a lot of recycling can take place within your own home.
