Work Happily in a Garden Studio
By Francesca McGlone on 16th November, 2010
Working from home can seem heaven sent. A garden office only serves to enhance the experience, creating just enough space between the relaxation associated with home and the concentration needed for an office environment. A garden office can be planted, just a stone’s throw away from the main house, making a worker immune from distractions but on hand for family commitments. A real work-life balance, which is often elusive for many workers, is effectively achieved.
Working in your own garden office, away from social expectations means that you are free to be yourself in so much as you can dress casually or outrageously, depending on taste and mood. This can help to create a comfortable frame of mind, which leads to greater creativity and productivity. Personal taste can also be expressed in other ways, from artwork and photographs to the style of office furniture and the colour scheme of an interior. All these elements can create an environment of familiarity and comfort, which can positively influence an approach to work.
The advantages of being your own boss are plentiful. Being the master of your own time and managing your activities, without the pressure of someone else’s expectations, enables a greater sense of achievement, as you take responsibility for your own success. A garden studio can easily be home to an enterprising business.
Working from a garden office also means that you avoid the feeling of being shut away, as large windows welcome in daylight and provide a burst of invigoration with views out onto nature, which an urban office may deny a worker.
Swapping the prospect of a traffic bound road for a short garden stroll along a pretty path is by far the most stress-free way to journey to work. Removing the often troublesome commute that involves despondent crowds on public transport or exasperation in traffic queues, means that you can start and finish the day without overlapping tension which can compromise both the quality of a working day and the time spent at home.
If given the option to work from a garden office, set in the privacy of a naturally beautiful environment, with the freedom to set your own goals and time limits, without the diversions of office etiquette, nearly everyone would sign up. Office hours that can easily fit around an existing schedule, ultimately equate to time well spent.
