Winter Hanging Baskets Blossom on your Garden Office

By Emma Heaton on 29th September, 2011
Once your garden studio has been installed in to your garden it is time to make it a home. The fun part of getting a new room or building is adding your favourite pieces and making it your own. With a garden studio there are many ways that you can blend it in to your garden using plants and foliage and brighten it up with colourful flowers. With the winter approaching and the temperature starting to drop, it is evident that winter is upon us; however plants can still be added in your garden to create a winter wonderland. Winter hanging baskets are a great way to introduce valuable colour at eye level.
Herbs, shrubs and evergreens will last longer in your winter gardens rather than the bedding plants; however they will add a vibrant colour and will suit for a shorter display. The plants that are popular for the winter baskets are, Cordyline, Crocus, Primula, Viola and so on, they will help waken up your garden and give an organic appearance to your garden office. The winter hanging baskets should be planted from now to the middle of October; the hardy plants will survive the frost keeping your garden beautiful even against the elements.
Planting …
Lining and Compost
When using a wire basket it will need to be lined, collecting moss form the garden is a quick fix for lining, otherwise you can buy readymade cardboard liners and fibrous materials. The compost should be long lasting for the winter baskets, ericaceous compost will be better suited.
Choosing and Arranging
During winter a central plant in the basket is better in case some plants fail to flower in the cold and frosty conditions. Trailing plants can be placed around the edge so that they flow over covering the wire basket. Choose plants that have colours that will work together and that have a high reliability of flowering.
