Who Buys a Garden Building?

By Steven Willis on 9th August, 2011
More and more people are turning to garden buildings, for a whole host of reasons. For some the garden building represents that much-needed space that the house simply can’t provide anymore, while for others it forms their workplace, a secluded and dedicated room without distractions.
The actual function of a garden room can be incredibly varied, and one of their great benefits is the fact that they can be adapted to suit different activities at different times.
That’s why at Decorated Shed we say there’s a garden building for everyone, and there really is no such thing as a typical garden building owner.
Here are some owner profiles, demonstrating the varied appeal of the garden building. See if you recognise yourself amongst them…
The Homeworker
Who is this?
The Homeworker is someone who carries out their main job from a room in their house, or perhaps works occasionally from home. The Homeworker could also be some who, while working daily at an office, needs some space at home to catch up on their work tasks after-hours.
Why do they need a garden building?
The Homeworker needs a garden building to escape from the distractions of working in the house. Whether it’s in the spare bedroom, the dining room, a discrete corner of the lounge or even a dedicated study, working from home can often prove to be an arduous undertaking. The temptations of the home are close at hand, and the accumulation of work files, folders and papers can soon infringe on other areas of the house creating an unhealthy ‘always at work’ feeling. In such an environment the Homeworker can often find themselves working longer hours unproductively, or becoming stuck in a rut.

Modern/Cube – a compact, contemporary office that fits neatly into any garden. The organic wood cladding blends naturally into the surrounding landscape, while the modern design style complements a varied range of house architecture. Inside, the Modern/Cube provides ample space for everything you need from an office – in a beautifully light and airy interior.
The Party Host
Who is this?
The Party Host is someone who is at their best when they’re entertaining friends and family. House parties, barbeques, get-togethers and celebrations are their speciality.
Why do they need a garden building?
The Party Host needs a garden building to be a visually-stunning space for their entertaining. As well as great looks, the Party Host’s garden building needs to be flexible enough to accommodate each of the different events that they throw.
Which garden building is right for them?
Bespoke – a garden building designed precisely around the owner’s requirements, the Bespoke can be developed as a space that breaks down the barriers of indoor/outdoor and becomes the centrepiece of a garden get-together. When the spotlight is off and the party is over, the Bespoke represents a flexible garden room that can be used for almost anything.
The Gadget Fan
Who is this?
The Gadget Fan is a devotee of all things electronic, with an obsession for audio visual equipment, video games and gadgets. The Gadget Fan is dedicated to the constant acquiring of new kit, in the quest for the perfect home cinema, music centre or gaming zone.
Why do they need a garden building?
More kit needs more space, and there comes a time in every technophile’s life when the humble house simply cannot contain it all, or doesn’t provide the necessary layout to maximise enjoyment. Houses are rarely designed and built around providing the optimum audio-visual environment, and the Gadget Fan doesn’t like to compromise.
Which garden building is right for them?
Dual – a traditionally-designed garden studio with advanced build properties, the Dual is the ideal space for getting the best out of electronic entertainment. With an extended length footprint and expansive ceiling area for sound clarity, the Dual lends itself to being the perfect home cinema hideaway.
The Hobbyist
Who is this?
The Hobbyist is someone who has a dedication to a particular pursuit, which holds a special place in their lives. Their hobby could be an in-depth activity such as painting or playing a musical instrument, or it could simply be a regular pastime such as reading.
Why do they need a garden building?
Most hobbies demand a certain amount of accessories that will invariably grow over time. The longer a hobby is pursued, the more likely it is to outgrow its place in the house. A garden room gives a hobby a dedicated space where it can be enjoyed without worrying about infringing on other rooms in the house.

The Family Landlord
Who is this?

Why do they need a garden building?
A garden building provides the Family Landlord with a ready-made accommodation solution that avoids the need for a house extension or moving, as well as giving everyone the space they crave.
