The flexible garden office

By Steven Willis on 5th October, 2010
A garden office is a fantastic place to dedicate your thoughts towards work and experience a level of productivity that is rarely achievable in the home. However the benefits of garden offices don’t end with work, as the space can be easily adapted to accommodate a wide range of other activities when required. Here are some of the most common ‘secondary’ uses for garden offices;
Summerhouse - In the warmer months it’s natural for life to extend out of the house into the garden, with lazy summer days and long evenings under the stars. A garden office is the ideal base for outdoor living, acting as a hub whether you’re relaxing alone and or entertaining guests.
Garden gym - With exercise equipment taking on ever-more complex functions - cross trainers, multi-gyms, rowing machines and even the humble gym ball - it's inevitable that it will outgrow the spare bedroom or garage. Housing gym equipment in a garden office creates a space where it can be used as it should be, or at the very least won’t become an expensive clotheshorse.
Playroom - A child's stock of toys and games can sometimes grow faster than the youngster themselves, and the days when a simple toy box could contain all of their accoutrements seems to be long gone. While a bedroom is the usual home for toys, it’s normal for a parent to want their child to be in sight while playing, and not kept apart up in their room. With this in mind, a garden office represents a perfect playroom, and the seamless connection into the garden itself acts as an extended place for play.
Entertainment room - Home cinema systems have quickly established themselves in the modern home, with TV screens getting larger, definition getting higher and sound becoming more surrounding as audio visual technology strides ever onwards. However, it's not always appropriate to have such dominating advancements in the lounge or family room, and it can sometimes seem like too much. Creating an entertainment room in a garden building is the perfect solution, moving the equipment out into a self-contained space and leaving the house peaceful.
