Storage Opportunities in a Garden Office

Storage Opportunities in a Garden Office

Parting with treasured items just to create more space in the house can present a dilemma. Choosing practical space over indulgent space is a rational decision. It is easy to form strong attachments to inanimate items as sentimental reasons often fuel our desire to hold onto things, even if they are of no use.

Most of us have the propensity to become collectors. Recalling fond memories can be triggered by simply looking at or holding an object, which may have been given as a gift, bought in a particular place on holiday or even found .Whatever the memory, an object can keep it alive by simply being on display. As time passes, the once spacious house that we first moved into begins to clutter with personal tokens, eating up space that could be used in a myriad of other ways.

The beauty of storing treasured items and collections in a garden office is that valuable space is freed up within the main house without losing the opportunity to revisit items when the mood takes you. If a garden office is also used as a workspace, then the fact that personal items are also around means that the environment becomes less sterile and more relaxed, with plenty of storage space still available for business files.

Music and book collections are prime examples of how objects can grow, claiming huge expanses of space. A passion for literature and music is often reflected in a large collection of records or books. A garden office provides the perfect space in which to house these collections, objects that in effect waste space but are precious nonetheless.

Although we are entering an age where downloads are fast becoming the norm, the tangible media we own in the form of vinyl, CD and DVD’s are not yet obsolete in terms of their playing potential. They can also signify the time taken to build up the collection, which can serve as an accomplishment in its own right, while displaying music that belongs to different decades and genres of music. Album covers often act as impressive artworks in themselves and can be treated as so, which is another reason to keep hold of them.

A personal library of books, music and films will create a garden office atmosphere that is filled with nostalgia, sectioning certain moments in life as a record of experience. Music is a well known trigger of memory; a particular song can bring back crystal clear recollections of a time and place and accompanying emotions.
Music does not tend to have a shelf life when it comes to how much satisfaction we can gain from its melody and lyrics. This is why storage space is essential when it comes to treasuring music.

Even children’s toys can be stored in a garden office. Some toys may even be kept back after children grow up, as almost decorative keepsakes that instantly brighten up a room, leading back to fond memories. A garden office keeps them secure and if displayed the natural daylight is able to show off their texture and colours beautifully.

As well as providing a light filled, peaceful working environment, a garden office also grants extra space to display and store souvenirs of a life lived.
