Potato powered batteries

Potato powered batteries

By Dawn Kubicek on 25th June, 2010

Yesterday whilst scanning this weeks eco and green news I came across this very unique article about potato powered batteries. I thought potatoes were just a form of vegetable that was only used for our meals, but I was wrong.

Yes potatoes are actually a source of energy which has been researched by Yissum Research Development Company Ltd. The light generated from the potato battery is also at least 6 times more economical than kerosene lights.

Apparently only Zinc, Copper and a potato is all you need to create a working battery, the potato needs to be boiled first of course and will allow the battery to work for a full week or more.

I don't think potato batteries will be on our supermarket shelves soon but at least it is now known if needed in the future.

Solar power lights and electricity is an option for your Decorated Shed garden studio, along with a whole host of other options regarding recycled materials. Basically it is up to you how you want your building built along with the design and structure; we will work with you to create your own garden building.
