Picture Perfect - Adding Photo Memories to your Garden Office

By Francesca McGlone on 11th October, 2010
Many workers find that that a desktop is made their own when personal touches are introduced, just as a new house may not feel homely until furniture and sentimental possessions fill its interior. The quality of a working day can be easily enhanced through surroundings, as the sterile formality associated with an office is buffered by injections of personal expression and familiarity. It is common practice for a desk top to be decorated with personal photos, as pieces of a worker’s life are effectively propped up as a testament to the people and things they love.
Although a garden office is just a stone's throw away from the main house, where family and other photos reside; it is still a separate space in which to recreate comfort. This can be practised to full effect, as the look of a garden office is not restricted by other colleagues or a boss that will disapprove of an exaggerated display of personality.
Photos have the ability to transport us back in time and to other places, as holidays or days out are relived together with the feelings they represent, acting as windows into past scenes. A range of photo frames and transfers exist, which allows creativity to blossom in the office.
Mouse mats with treasured images of children or family pets, transferred on to their surface, maintain a tie to the main house, as they are easily integrated into the work place, without the distractions that a busy house hold can present. Photos are also used as an incentive for work, as for many people, providing for a family makes the working day worthwhile.
Whether photos are mounted on the wall in traditional frames, free standing or textural canvas transfers, they all capture the essence of happiness, contained in glossy snapshots of time. Photos can instantly enliven a work space, which will compliment the image of a pretty garden through a window frame. The conditions in which we work can have a huge impact on how we feel and approach tasks. Photos create an aura of friendliness that makes work much more of an enjoyable activity and less of a hardship. The daylight that enters a garden office can be matched with by the soft glow that photos radiate, as they instantly brighten any room.
Photo frames are available in a vast array of styles, commemorating all sorts of occasions, from weddings to graduations and birthdays to holidays. A frame can come complete with engraving etched into its surface, such as 'Baby's First Year', 'Our Wedding Day' or even verses from nursery rhymes that compliment the photo's content. Photo frames dedicated to a baby’s first year are normally shaped so that a series of portraitures catalogue the month by month development of a child in a single wall hanging, peppered with childhood images of toy bears that introduce comfort into the office environment.
Milestone Birthdays can be remembered with photo frames that mark the occasion. A variety of styles that correspond to a particular age are available; for example reaching twenty-one can be accompanied by an image of keys next to a photo of the special day, while reaching fifty can be moulded in the form of a champagne bottle shaped frame, instantly adding a convivial spirit to the work place. Graduation frames can also sit stylishly in solid silver frames or come in the shape of a mortar board, cementing the occasion firmly in the present, while prolonging the pride attached to a graduation.
A clock photo frame would make a nice addition to a garden office, combining a useful and functional time piece with photos that surround the clock, as each hand points to a moment in time, making a refreshing change from the bland face of a clock that soberly ticks the minutes away.
The interior of a garden office can act as a collage of wistful memories that form a definite identity. Productivity can soar as an individual is surrounded by familiar flashbacks that instantly make them feel at ease.
