Truly good design comes when a stunning aesthetic marries up with faultless function. Or, to put it another way; when something works as beautifully as it looks. The two elements shouldn’t really be separated when considering design quality.
Something that looks great but isn’t so great to use isn’t likely find a regular place in your life. Likewise something that does what you want but doesn’t spark any visual appeal while doing so becomes difficult to love.
But when something looks the part and performs exactly how you need it to, every single time, it creates an emotional attachment. Such a pull is what makes us embrace things into our regular routines for days, weeks, months and even years on end. Something that contributes to your life like this is rarely thought of as just another product.
Because it isn't.
