Make a Statement

Make a Statement

By Francesca McGlone on 26th August, 2010

A garden building that presents a polished manmade design which is also in harmony with nature, whilst retaining individual charm, undeniably makes a statement of innovation, modernity or ingenuity.

Interior design frequently creates statements using colour, texture and print. Feature walls that boast intricate or bold prints add character to a room and define the ambiance of a space. Focal points are also created within rooms, the most common being a fireplace that roars with crackling comfort and is framed with a mantel piece that stands proudly at the centre of the room, usually with a mirror or painting hung above to invite guests into the heart of the home.

A garden office or studio can also become the focal point of an outside space, just as a blossoming tree that leans into a garden or an urn that pours water held by a statue, draped in flowing material, as part of a water feature which become striking features of an outdoor space and can combine with an outdoor structure to create a increase impact. It could be said that the garden building's affiliation with beauty stems from its garden context, just as sunflowers make a statement with florescent petals that lead the eye magnetically inwards, while its distinct form attracts the gaze, in a stunning mix.

A bed of flowers or carpet of grass can lead the eye towards a garden studio, where accents of floral colour and earthy expanses, present within the garden highlight the structure's defined beauty and endless charm. The wow factor is immediate but when a garden office is put amongst nature, the inspirational mural is complete.

Fashion is also responsible for statement pieces, as people adorn their frames with colour and fabric, in order to express their character and emphasise attractiveness. A piece of statement jewellery is often added to an outfit to enliven a look and attract attention. Large, ornate necklaces or earrings can transform a traditional look that is safe to an original that is bold and adventurous. By opting to enhance a garden setting with the addition of a studio or office; the picketed boundaries of convention are broken, which invites admiration. In other words, appearances do the talking.

Fashion communicates a theme or outlook; be it classic, beach chic, grunge glamour, or tailored; a whole range exists and is continuously reinvented, spawning new strands of style, which all communicate a specific interest or passion. All of the garden building designs offer a space, in which to utilise space and express character, whether it be through a space dedicated to art, work or leisure.

Architecture is renowned for making statements. Palaces, cathedrals and castles continue to draw attention, as visitors marvel at their designs and scale. The ability to communicate grandeur, fortification and faith is evidence of architecture's indomitable presence. Modern constructions continue to add to the landscape such as The London Eye and The Guerkin building which symbolise innovation and commerce, as iconic landmarks of a thriving metropolis. A garden office or studio's presence within a garden can enliven its potential. Small buildings are just as capable of making big statements.
