Maintaining the Finishing Touches to Your Garden Office

By Emma Heaton on 3rd October, 2011
Decking provides the perfect finishing touch to a Decorated Shed garden office. It creates a softer transition from the building in to the garden. This functional area is ideal for sitting out on and enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the natural setting. On warm days you can open the bi-fold doors and extend your workspace on to the decking area, and soak up the suns rays. It is an ideal area to entertain and socialise in a wide open space.
Garden furniture is the perfect accompaniment to your garden studio and external decking area. It is important to maintain the quality of the furniture and care for it during the seasons and here is how …
Hardwood Furniture
This is the most durable type of furniture, they are resistant to bad weather conditions so you can keep them out during the winter, making it the most suitable if you have little storage space. Hardwood bought from reliable and sustainable sources require little maintenance, tilting the furniture will keep the legs off the ground to prevent rotting and heavy duty waterproof covers will hold off the harshest winter weather. Hardwood like Teak is a golden-brown colour when bought new and turns to a silvery-grey when weathered, storing it is an option if you did not want the colour to alter, however many prefer the weathered look of hardwood, it can often look more organic and blend in better with its natural surroundings.
Softwood Furniture
Softwood like pine requires more maintenance; but it is cheaper and more readily available than the hardwood. The best way to keep it in good condition is to apply a wood paint that includes preservatives. It is a good idea to cover this furniture during adverse weather to increase the life of the product.
It is important to ensure you apply the preservative paying attention to every surface especially where it will collect water or be in contact with damp areas such as the chair and table legs.
Metal Garden Furniture
The main problem with metal furniture is rust, although it is extremely durable. There is rust-preventing paint that you can use to ensure the furniture lasts for longer. If the chairs and tables are fold way, the joints may need fixing and oiling for easy movement when you put them away again. The paint will need to be up kept every two to three years so that the appearance and quality is maintained against the weather.
