London Workers Encouraged to Work at Home During Olympics

By Andrew Tweddle on 24th August, 2011
The 2012 London Olympics are now less than one year away and Olympic fever is starting to set in all across the country. In line with this, numerous measures are now being taken to ensure the games run as smoothly as possible and stay incident free. One of these precautions is to allow London workers, particularly those who will regularly use the Jubilee Line, to work from home during the times when the Olympics are taking place.
Many major employers based in Canary Wharf are supposedly going to allow workers to be more flexible during this period and, if their job responsibilities allow it, work from home. With hundreds of thousands of extra passengers likely to be using the tube network during the games, the already busy system will benefit from an ease in passenger numbers.
Ben Plowden, Director of Better Routes and Places at Transport for London, said of the findings: "Companies that already have this sort of flexible working, such as Glaxo and BT, have realised that there are huge benefits for their businesses. What they have found is that the use of office space is more efficient. They have greater resilience. When there is some big snow problem or whatever, the organisation keeps functioning. There will be legacy benefits to this programme."
Some experts believe that, if the businesses affected still run smoothly during the games, this could be the ‘tipping point’ for flexi-working to become much more common for British workers. If you make the transition to working from home or flexi-working, a Decorated Shed garden office is the ideal investment to accompany your new lifestyle. These high quality garden buildings are made from long-lasting, sustainable materials, which allow you to stay at home to work, while still allowing you a space that is separate from family life.
