The benefits of 'lawn commuting'

By Steven Willis on 11th December, 2009

Working from home is becoming an increasingly popular practice here in the UK, as more and more people discover the multitude of benefits it can bring. Efficiencies in work productivity; a clearer work/life balance; not having to pay fuel or public transport costs; lowering your environmental impacts and achieving massive time savings are just some of the many positives that working from home can deliver.

The traditional pitfalls of working from home centre around work quality suffering from household distractions followed by difficulties in "switching off" from work after hours. However with a dedicated building set aside from the home you can retain a genuine work/life balance, keeping the two clearly separated. An outdoor building such as a garden office allows an obvious physical separation from home life, and a space where work can have your undivided attention, with no distractions.

The eco credentials of a commute-free journey to work are self-explanatory, and even removing yourself from the rush hour traffic for just a couple of days a week can have a huge reduction on your carbon footprint. Swapping the daily rat-race for a leisurely walk down the garden will also work wonders for your stress levels, before and after work.

Decorated Shed design and build a varied and unique range of buildings that are ideally suited to homeworking. Our Office building is a perfect fit for everyday desk-based work, while the Lantern Lite is an airy and light-filled space that naturally lends itself to studio work such as photography or design.
