Insulating for your future

Insulating for your future

By Matthew Thompson on 1st October, 2010

On any build, insulation is very important because if it is done properly and efficiently then money can be saved in the long run. An efficiently insulated build will be warm in the winter and cool in the summer - the perfect combination for a build, giving it a low carbon emission rate. A house or building that has been insulated to a high standard will also result in low energy bills and will start saving you money as soon as it is installed.

There are new conventional methods to insulate and also other more natural techniques. Each method works by resisting heat flow, however the conventional method works well with modern styled builds as opposed to the natural techniques used with natural buildings and other ventures.

Decorated Shed uses a conventional method in their bespoke garden buildings, and can be seen in the garden studio. The insulation gives the building an incredibly warming atmosphere in the colder months and cooler in the warmer seasons. The conventional method has been regarded as more effective than natural methods, and involves the use of foams and polystyrene. These materials are relatively inexpensive so are becoming the main choices when looking to efficiently insulate a new build. Decorated Shed uses a Thermo Shell Composite panel system which works very effectively.

Natural techniques are often found on new natural sustainable buildings, which have been made out of materials similar to those used for the insulation. Some of the materials used include sheep’s wool, cellulose, flax and hemp, wood fibre and expanded clay aggregate. The natural methods may be low impact, but they are considerably more expensive than the equally as effective conventional methods. However either method will be highly beneficial to any build, saving you money in the future.
