Innovative and environmental office design unveiled in Scotland
By Matthew Thompson on 22nd January, 2011
An office block in Fife, Scotland has been opened this month, and is not only a striking piece of architecture but also revolutionary in the way it stores the energy which it collects. The £4.7m office forms part of Fife’s flagship Energy Park, which is soon to be seen as a hub of innovation and research into renewable energy fuels. Designed by architectural firm Graham & Sibbald, the facility has a full height glass entrance, which leads into an open plan office area. However the most impressive aspect of the building is its hydrogen production system, which captures excess wind power and stores it as hydrogen to be used when the wind isn’t strong enough. This clever and simple system can produce the energy to maintain the building.
The environment is a central aspect of the hydrogen office building, and the same can be seen in Decorated Shed’s garden rooms. The environmental aspects of the build are taken into consideration, which can be seen by the use of the highly insulating GreenShell composite panel system and the buildings ability to use renewable energy sources. Environmentally friendly building techniques and energy resources are becoming more popular with the worlds focus now on an energy efficient future.
As can be seen in the project in Fife’s Energy Park, the environment plays an important role in the buildings purpose, not only as a research centre but also the pioneering of a new energy storing technique. Similar to the Hydrogen Office, Decorated Shed’s garden rooms combine environmental thinking with modern design, and we succeed in producing premium eco-friendly buildings.
