Green dry cleaning

Green dry cleaning

Its not easy dry cleaning and being green...

The original dry - cleaning technique, developed in the 1850's by Jean-Baptiste Jolly, was not a process which you would want to entrust your favourite threads. But when Kerosene was replaced by perchloroethylene everyone breathed a sigh of relief. But by the 1980's "perc" was found to be both neurotoxic and carcinogenic. It has also been linked to increased incidents of leukaemia in dry - cleaning staff and higher concentrations are found to affect air quality around the establishments. It is the chemical that gives dry cleaning that clean smell.

More dry cleaners should offer perc - free techniques using liquid silicone from sand or a CO2 blasting process.

It is assumed the chemical will be phased out by 2020 (hopefully) but customers need to drive the change. Johnsons have 150 GreenEarth dry cleaners round the country and we need to try these out to stop the intrusive chemicals being used, for our health and the environment.

The plastic covering your dry - cleaning is also another issue!

Your Decorated Shed garden building or garden studio will be as green as possible as we take every aspect of climate change into consideration. We use eco paints which do not contain chemicals and our Western Red Cedar natural and uncoated.
