Green for Go

By Francesca McGlone on 28th July, 2010
Green thinking seems to be the way forward as the trend seeps into current consciousness, while the accepted tradition of extravagance falls away in favour of alternative approaches. The elevated social status that is attached to green practices is also a motivating factor, as re-usable shopping bags display fashionable designs and thought-provoking slogans, appealing to the new eco-fashion conscious individual, who flaunt the benefits of recycled material that in turn empower the radiation of green attitudes.
Green solutions seem to impress to their ingenuity and effectiveness. Decorated Shed offers Sports and School annd community buildings, considerately designed in a mix of ingenuity, functionality and an aesthetically pleasing finish. The Sports and School building is literally based upon an energy efficient foundation. The augered pile system ensures this, while a high insular performance provided by a multi-layered roof, walls and triple sealed windows ensure the cost to the wallet and the earth remain low.
Celebrity culture is a dominant strand of youth culture, where fame automatically draws attention, where the actions of celebrities are watched closely and are associated with creating what it means to be 'cool'. The recent media coverage of green celebrities means that a school building that adopts the same principles is tagged as a desirable location, which will in promoting a positive learning environment.
Celebrities that have supported green issues and applied them to their lifestyles, include the actress Cameron Diaz, who drives a hybrid vehicle and has taken a leadership role within the Environmental Media Association. Others include actor Robert Redford, a campaigner for environmental issues and environmental legislation; as well as actor Leonardo Dicaprio, who narrated and wrote an eco-documentary, as well as a blog dedicated to 'green living'. Their support of green issues almost glamorises and reaffirms the subject but whether this is a positive emergence that inspires a new found vocation or a passing hobby that is ironically unsustainable remains to be seen. Do celebrities convince or merely enchant?
The creativity that has emerged as a result of the green trend will hopefully avoid boredom with the topic, as new ideas are generated and a love affair with the environment is forged and deepened for decades to come.
