First environmental hospital awarded an LEED

By Matthew Thompson on 6th January, 2011

A hospital has just been recently completed in Florida; however this isn’t any ordinary hospital. Environmentally designed and built to maximise a natural feeling for patients, St Joseph’s Hospital-North has been designed to create an abundance of open space and provide habitat for wildlife and plants. The open space allows the natural light to flood the building and create a calming atmosphere for patients.

The hospital grounds are maintained 100% by water collected, and the taps and fountains in the building uses 20% of the water used in normal buildings. The roof system helps to regulate the temperature of the building reducing the heat effect and keeping it cooler. This same method can be seen with the panel system used on our garden room, keeping the garden building warm in the colder months and cool during summer. The relaxing and serene atmosphere created at St Joseph’s Hospital-North, can also be found in Decorated Shed’s garden rooms. Meticulously designed, with natural light and creating an individual calming atmosphere is central to the concept.

Low emitting paint and adhesives were used on the project which provides a fresher air to breathe. The construction materials were received from local sources, which kept carbon emissions down and gave the local economy something. The environment is considered in all aspect of a Decorated Shed build from transport, construction and living with the building. Enjoy your garden room bathed in natural light through expansive windows; a carefully planned garden building creates a relaxing atmosphere perfect for the New Year.
