Creativity Shines Through at the Chelsea Flower Show

By Emma Heaton on 25th May, 2011
The Chelsea Flower Show hosted by the Royal Horticultural Society, started again yesterday. With its array of colour and life, the glorious settings attracted many garden fanatics to the grounds of the Royal Hospital in Chelsea. The show provides endless inspiration for the keen gardeners displaying every aspect of interest from contemporary to romantic to urban chic gardens.
With 18 different settings at the show there was a lot to take in; they included the record breaking B&Q garden which is currently the tallest ever garden to be on the Chelsea Flower Show that is said to inspire people to enhance urban greening. The Irish Sky Garden was the focal point of the show as it defied gravity being part suspended 25 metres in the air. The designer’s inspiration came from the movie Avatar and we see Chelsea Flower Show taking a huge leap in to the future, maybe they have predicted the trend of where gardens will be in years to come, it would seem with the fascination of this design it may be on the cards for a few designers next year.
Within the midst of the spectacular gardens, one in particular caught the hearts of the visitors, a tribute to Japan’s sorrow. Ishihara Kazuyuki suffered huge devastation after his country was destroyed by the earthquake and tsunami in March. It seemed impossible for him to bring his garden to England after his overwhelming loss, however he managed to focus all the sadness and energy in to producing a garden that represented the spirit of the country and symbolising the love and support that he will bring to try and put the country back on its feet. His idyllic paradise showed the persistence and strength of the Japanese people through the struggle of the recent months.
The talent and dedication that comes out of the world famous show is a realisation of how important it is to have a love for something that can push you to great lengths, the sheer endearment of the designers to go through months of hard work to present for just four days is a real inspiration to all.
