Beach Huts

By Dawn Kubicek on 9th August, 2010
Beach huts have been a feature of the British seaside since Victorian times. This year the return of the beach hut is on the horizon for many seaside towns.
159 new, bright beach huts have been built in Scarborough so people can spend time next to the beautiful beaches in the summer, with each hut costing around £35k. A lot of the new structures and architecture came from a competition called 'Structures on the Edge' which has changed people's views in the town of art and architecture and how these small changes can enhance their coast.
People are now seeing Scarborough's seaside and 'retro' themes, giving them desires to decorate their huts inside and out to add to the environment's already exciting scenery.
"There is a wonderful mixture of people owing beach huts where the young and old can enjoy a well deserved break," said one of the locals.
"It was one of the most exciting moments of my life - finally got a beach hut," added another local resident, where some of them have decorated them in fabulous, quirky ways to add their personal touch.
Children on the other hand see the beach huts as a place to store their surf boards and toys.
As well as Scarborough's new beach huts, a number of 'beach pods' have just been built in Boscombe Beach in Dorset. Designed by Wayne Hemingway, the motive was to design a fun and comfortable space where you can celebrate the seaside culture. Prices range from 65k for a single unit and 95k for a double unit, both being sustainable holiday homes with a design unique to this Dorset beach.
Blyth, in the North East, is another location where beach huts have hit the coast. Where the new beach huts are positioned is where they were in the 1940s and 1950s as well! The beach is a beautiful natural place a great day out. These particular huts at Blyth can be hired by the day, night or even year.
Beach huts are something of an English version of the American 'tiny house living' concept. The small spaces and tiny living idea is spreading across the UK too, showing that you don't need a large space to make a home.
Decorated Shed can build luxury, premium garden studios and beach huts and small garden buildings where the use of the space internally and externally can enhance the build.
Decorated Shed's bespoke services allow for almost any kind of build, meaning we can design you a building which suits your needs and requirements.
So why not join the 'small living' craze, and we will work with you to create a structure that lasts year after year.
