A Garden Office Gallery
By Francesca McGlone on 9th December, 2010
Adding art to any wall instantly enhances a room's character to exist as a strong expression of identity. Art also serves as an instant insight into an individual's perspective. A garden office is a prime environment to exhibit art, where inspiration can be derived and creativity can blossom.
The ambiance of a garden office impacts upon productivity. Art can provide a direct source of rich, multi-dimensional inspiration that can be unconsciously gazed at in order to give the mind an outlet for the imagination.
Various factors can influence how a picture affects a space, from the subject, style, era and origin of a piece of art. The size of a picture can also have a dramatic impact on how an image is viewed. If it is a large scale picture then it will dominate a room and make a bold statement; if it is a small picture placed as part of a set or on its own it can also induce a response, as its detail is compounded in miniature form, ready for closer inspection as the eyes delve into another scene.
The medium of a picture can also influence how it affects a room, for example water colour made up of a series of delicate washed strokes is able to breathe a sense of calmness into a room, as opposed to an oil painting that exhibits deeper, more resolute marks of colour.
The material that a piece of art is printed onto can also influence how it is perceived and the kind of qualities it brings to a working environment. In a garden office, the access to available daylight that shines through the ample windows of a garden office provides the right kind of light in which the colours and forms of art can be fully appreciated.
How famous an image is also makes a statement, such as Klimt’s ‘The Kiss’ or Monet’s ‘Water Lilies’ which are hung as a testament to their fame. Other art that is obscure sends out a message of individualism that can be applied to the office worker, while a famous picture reveals traits of a traditionalist.
The way art is framed determines what stands out and what is pushed to the background. An image can display the crystal clarity of a photograph with sharp contrast or can be less well defined in an impressionist approach, where brush strokes whirl around a canvas, bringing a sea of colour and shape that threatens to eclipse the main image in a dreamy haze that is both decorative and captivating.
Even movement within a picture can enliven an office environment, whether it is in the form of dancers, crashing waves or swaying trees; movement can enliven a working space. Dramatic hillsides, forest shades and breezes through poppy fields all fall under the category of scenic art that can transport you to new pastures, welcoming beams of sunlight into an otherwise dreary winter day.
Art can also depict music, illustrating singers and musical instruments that work to pull you into a world of merriment. Having music idols on your wall can also showcase a passion that serves as inspiration, which is the perfect way to express your musical personality.
A garden office will always benefit from art, together with a backdrop of natural beauty that coincides with making a working day a collage of artistry.
