Working from home to beat recession

By Dawn Kubicek on 2nd July, 2010
Working at home making some extra money on the side as well as having a full time job was a choice a lot of us used to do for some extra pocket money. But the recession has made it a necessity and even a living for thousands of us in the UK. A growing amount of us have had to replace lost income by working from home.
During the last recession, the internet was an unfamiliar tool. Unlike this time round it has managed create jobs and money for those less fortunate during these hard times.
Edward Moss was made redundant last year. He managed to find a new job organising education material for schools. But he took a big drop in income and could not cover his overheads. See the BBC website for full video story on Edward.
When Edward finishes work and gets home, he is straight on his laptop doing free lance marketing and research work. This work contributes to about 25% towards his overall bills which has been vital after his salary drop. Edward found his work through PeoplePerHour, a website whose membership has soared in the past year due to our unpredictable economy. It's an online marketplace where professionals like Edward can bid for one-off projects posted by companies who are keen to keep costs down by outsourcing work who may have also been affected by the recession.
This is just one example of how people's lives have had to change and adapt to our ever changing economy.
For many of us - working after work in our homes can be a challenge this can be the busiest time when children and families are involved. A Decorated Shed garden office can be the perfect solution to these problems and give you the chance you need to start a new business or work extra hours after like Edward.
