Restaurant designed around noise
By Matthew Thompson on 5th November, 2010
In a loud restaurant it is hard to enjoy your food and the company, with a plethora of different table conversations going on around you, waiting staff taking orders and moving back and forth from the kitchen. However, the high street chain Pizza Express have redesigned their Richmond restaurant to be the ‘the first designed around conversation’, iconeye.com reports. This is a completely different step in design, moving away from the conventional restaurant design of more seats and tables for more people. It is a design, concentrating on the enjoyment and pleasure that you will experience whilst dining.
The main problem which was faced by the designers was lowering the reverberation time, as the longer the time the sound reverberates around the noisier the restaurant becomes. A modern and stylish approach was taken to the restaurant design, by installing ‘conversation booths’ with controls to select music, lighting and buttons to alert the attention of the waiting staff to create an ambient atmosphere. This refreshing take on design, can also be seen in the way Decorated Shed design a garden studio to your desired specification. A garden studio is an entirely flexible space, in which a whole host of activities are available and is a space designed and dedicated for you.
Pizza Express have not looked to redesign their whole brand, but to start a new style of restaurant aimed at the enjoyment of conversation and the dining experience. This personal approach to the customer can also be seen in the way that Decorated Shed treat and handle each client.
