Light Focused Spaces

By Francesca McGlone on 21st July, 2010
All of Decorated Shed's garden buildings are constructed around the importance of natural light in defining the ambiance of a space. The benefits of natural light seem versatile, whether contributing to positive drive in a work environment, enhancing relaxation or simply accentuating its beauty. Each building directs light to advantageous effect. By welcoming in whole walls of natural daylight, The Office building is able to highlight desktops in soft light, while The Sunroom captures potential rays, with three complete walls of daylight entering seamlessly. Just as a pier allows individuals to walk out to the ocean, protected from the icy waves, the Sunroom extends into the garden, shielding the occupant from the harsh elements, while preserving the mood enhancing brightness and warmth of the beaming sun. As well as harnessing light, as a flood lit stage to bask in and melt worries away; the room also displays the different hues that the skies cast, allowing the occupier to indulge in a variety of weather patterns.
Another garden building design, the Lantern Lite, exudes electric light at night, escaping through cut out windows on both the ground floor and roof panels, as a torch-like spectacle. The daylight becomes a core source of natural light that energises the building's brilliance. The Flat Lodge has full length panels of glass that grace the building, ensuring light enters the room from all directions and all heights. The full length glass panels frame views out onto a garden setting that maintains a sense of idyllic escapism. The Leisure Building achieves a balance between concealment and exposure, allowing the occupant to feel enveloped within the enjoyment of leisure activities, while the serenity of natural light bathes the space. The generous amount of garden that lies open before the viewer adds to a feeling of freedom, whilst the security of four walls remains solidly comforting.
The Office building also revolves around making the most of natural light. The Office Green tips, found on the Decorated Shed website's blog compliment the design of the building that welcomes the presence of nature, which may encourage a greater appreciation of nature's positive affects to motivate greener attitudes as a result. The natural light that illuminates the work space through glass covered doors and windows to the front and sides ensure that a sense of an oppressive enclosure is avoided. The outside foliage becomes the decorative feature that replaces the static pictures, normally found within a darker, more sterile office space.
Buildings made up from light faceted walls are an instant draw. By ensuring that natural light becomes an integral feature of each building; the advantages of outdoor experience are melded with the comfort and security of indoor habitation. The transition from outdoor to indoor is marked by the absence of harsh elements rather than the soft light or the beauty that accompanies natural scenery.
