Eco heating system showcases in Tyneside

By Steven Willis on 6th April, 2010

An innovative air-sourced heat pump and solar water heating system is being installed in sixty houses in South Tyneside as part of a showcase campaign for the eco technologies. South Tyneside Homes, the association behind the scheme, hopes that the installations will deliver energy bill savings of up to 30% and provide the start of a wider rollout.

Air-sourced heat pumps draw heat from outside, increase the temperature and distribute the heat through the building, while the solar water heating system is driven by roof-mounted panels. As well as the renewable technologies employed in the houses, traditional efficiency measures such as double glazing and insulation are also in effect.

The programme has been recognised as a leading example of environmentally-friendly home renovation in the North East region by National Energy Action (NEA), a fuel poverty charity.
